Details: The Rider-Waite Tarot Deck, created in 1909 by Pamela Colman Smith under the direction of Arthur Edward Waite, established the standard for numerous other tarot decks that have followed. One noteworthy feature of the Rider-Waite deck, and a major factor in its enduring popularity, is that each card, including the Minor Arcana, features a detailed scene with figures and symbols. This was a significant departure from earlier tarot decks, which typically only displayed the suit signs of swords, wands, cups, and coins or pentacles.

The innovative design of the Minor Arcana and Pamela Colman Smith`s ability to convey emotions and experiences through art have made the Rider-Waite Tarot a prototype for many other decks. In fact, the Rider-Waite Tarot was named one of the Top Ten Tarot Decks of All Time by A.E. Waite himself.
